The lithographs in this calendar are reproductions of stonecut prints produced during a
Printmaking Workshop help in the northern Quebec community of Povungnituk during
1972.
A unique experiment for the north, the "Print-In" was attended by eighteen Eskimo artists
from nine Arctic Quebec communities along the Hudson’s and Ungava Bay coasts. Most
of the participants were unfamiliar with printmaking techniques and a few had never
before handled pencil and paper.
As well as introducing basic techniques in printmaking, the seven week session provided
these artists from isolated Arctic communities, the rare opportunity to exchange design
ideas, group criticism and technical
