Chippendale/ Hepplewhite transitional cherry case. Broken arch pediment with three turned urn finials, distinctive carved rosettes, floral polychrome painted and gilt dials showing moon’s age, seconds hand, and calendar aperture.
With eight-day brass weight-driven movement, time & strike. Includes pendulum, weights, and key.

Jacob Hostetter (1754-1831) a pioneer clockmaker of York County, PA. He produced his first clock in 1798 after learning the trade from Richard Chester, the first clockmaker in Hanover. Jacob Hostetter was also a politician, member of the state legislature and a member of Congress (1818-1821).
