Herb Fichter (1920-1995) signed numbered prints. "Doc on Call" 54/300 and "Coconut Bearer" 61/300. Fichter received a scholarship to New York School of Fine and Applied Arts, Parsons, NY, attended Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY, and Corcoran School of Art, Washington, D.C. He was a master engraver, having apprenticed and become a Chief Engraver bank note engraver. Although he won many awards during his career, one of his greatest honors was that of an invitation in 1951 to exhibit his engravings in a one man show at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. Later that year two pieces of Herb’s work were placed in the permanent collection of the Library of Congress. Other permanent collections are in the Kennedy Memorial Library, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Mercantile Money Museum, and the American Print Collection. Best known for his engravings of vintage airplanes, trains, historical vignettes, and portraiture.
